چکیده

Assuming three light neutrinos and the seesaw mechanism we present a semiquantitative model of fermion masses based on (SUSY) SU(5) and abelian horizontal charges. A good description of the observed pattern of quark and lepton masses is obtained. For neutrinos we naturally obtain widely split masses and large atmospheric neutrino mixing as a consequence of SU(5)-related asymmetric mass matrices for d quarks and charged leptons.

Fermion Masses and Bi-large Lepton Mixing from Singular Matrices

We discuss conditions under which bi-large mixing in the lepton sector is achieved assuming that all Yukawa matrices and the right-handed neutrino mass matrix have the same singular form in the leading order. Due to obvious quark lepton symmetry, this approach can be embedded into grand unified theories. The right-handed neutrino mass scale can be identified with the GUT scale and, as a consequ...

Grand unified textures for neutrino and quark mixings

The atmospheric neutrino data imply large mixing between the νμ and ντ states, θ23 = (45 ± 13)◦, while the MSW solution to the solar neutrino problem needs very small mixing angle θ12 = (1− 4)◦. In the quark sector the situation is rather opposite – the 23 mixing is tiny, θ23 ≃ 2◦, versus reasonable 12 mixing, θ12 ≃ 13◦. We show that such complementary patterns of the quark and leptonic mixings...

The Fermion Mass Hierarchy and Neutrino Mixing Problem

The fermion mass problem is briefly reviewed. The observed hierarchy of quark and charged lepton masses strongly suggests the existence of an approximately conserved chiral flavour symmetry beyond the Standard Model. It is argued that in models of this type, the requirement of a natural explanation for both the atmospheric and solar neutrino problems leads to an essentially unique picture of ne...

Minimal archi-texture for neutrino mass matrices

The origin of the observed masses and mixing angles of quarks and leptons is one of imperative subjects in and beyond the standard model. Toward a deeper understanding of flavor structure, we investigate in this paper the minimality of fermion mass (Yukawa) matrices in unified theory. That is, the simplest matrix form is explored in light of the current experimental data for quarks and leptons,...
